Good morning to all listeners. My partner Miriam and I Andrea will talk you about the country of the United States. We will speak about its continent, capital, flag, animals, important monuments, its currency and more interesting information. We hope you learn some things about this country.

    Continent ⇨ The United States is in North America that spreads from the Arctic Polar circle to the north up to the coasts of the south of Mexico.

The whole territory of America of the north finds washed by the Arctic Ocean (north), the  Atlantic Ocean (east), the Caribbean Sea (south-west) and the Pacific Ocean (south and west).

       Capital (Washington D.C.)    ⇨   Formally the District of Colombia and commonly referred to as Washington D.C.

The area is:

·         Federal district 177 Km²

·         Land 159 Km²

·         Water 18 Km²

The population is 693972 Hab.

The weather is temperate maritime.

The city of Washington was born as a planned city and was developed at the end of the 18^th century.       

 

       Important Cities    ⇨  The most important are : The Angels – New York – Chicago – San Francisco…

     Flag     ⇨   known in this country as “The Stars and Stripes, old Glory y the Star-Spangled Banner”.

It consists of thirteen equal horizontal stripes, 7 reds and 6 whites alternating, and a blue rectangle in the canton bearing fifty small, White, five-pointed stars The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states of the United States of America, and the 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies.

     Population  ⇨   The population of USA is 327.908.413

      Currency  ⇨ The us dollar bill is the lowest denomination of the us dollar. Has the portrait of George Washington and on the obverse and reverse the shield.

     Mount Denali ⇨  Mount Denali, formerly called Mount McKinley, is the highest mountain in North America, with an altitude of 6190 meters above sea level.

It is located in the Alaska mountain range.

      Main rivers  ⇨  The main rivers are the Mississippi river, the Colorado river and the Missouri river among others.  The last one is the longest one with 3.767km long.

      Animals  ⇨ The most common animals are black bears, mice, deers, foxes, raccoons, skunks, squirrels and diversity of small birds.

    Places to visit  ⇨ In this country, you can visit Central Park. This place is one of the most famous parks in the world and the biggest park in USA. You also can visit Alcatraz island. In the past it was used as a military fortification, as a military prison and later as a federal prison. Now it is a national park. Other place is Golden Gate Bridge who is the most famous bridge in San Francisco and probably in the world. The empire state building was the tallest skyscraper in the world for forty years.

     Important monuments  ⇨  There are lots of important monuments. One of them is the Monument to Washington. It was the tallest structure in the world until the Eiffel tower was built. Other one is the Chicago Water Tower that now is an art gallery.

Sport ⇨ The most popular sports are car races (in the Indianapolis circuit), baseball, basketball, ice hockey and American football.

    Music ⇨ The most popular musical genres are blues, gospel, rhythm and blues, jazz, ragtime and rock and roll.

Food ⇨  Some of the typical foods are pepperoni pizza, hot dog, hamburger, mac n´ cheese and peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

     Famous people ⇨ There are many famous people there like Charles Schulz (a famous strip cartoonist), Tony Morrison (a famous writer), Beyoncé (a famous singer), Katy Perry (another famous singer), Le Bron James (a famous basketball player) or Donald Trump (the president of United States)
