Howard Carter was born in London on may 9th, 1871 and died on march 2nd, 1939. He  was a famous English archaeologist and egyptologist.


He was the youngest of 11 siblings and attended school little because of health problems. At age 17, he was offered a job as a cartoonist in Egypt where he learned to dig and restore the monuments.






Until 1922 his most important discoveries were the tombs of Tutmosis IV in 1903, of the queen Hatshepsut, and of the pharaohs Montuhoped and Amenofis I, in 1915.


On november 5th, 1922, at 4 meters from the tomb of Ramses II he discovered together with Lord Carnarvon the remains of a staircase that went into the rock. It was an almost intact funerary complex, composed of several chambers full of riches, which kept the tomb of the young pharaoh. It is the best preserved tomb in the "Valley of the Kings".





It is treasures are in the Egyptian museum, in Cairo






Howard Carter was known worldwide for discovering the tomb of Tutankhamun in the "Valley of the Kings".
On february 16th, 1923 Carter opened the burial chamber, being the first to see the Sarcophagus of Tutankhamun.
